 "Shadow of the Day" [Misfits]
« Thread Started on Apr 3, 2009, 12:56am »

The ruby red blood splashed high into air, accompanied by two gargling screams as the life blood of the two humans trickled down into their lungs. More ruby reds droplets of the forbidden nectar flew across the forest, staining a nearby tree. A faint gleam reflected off the blood red blade as it slid smoothly into it's sheath. The owner of the sword bent down, sliding the mysterious four-eyed demon mask up off his face, causing several thick strands of snow white hair to fall down around around the golden eyes. They were squinting heavily, not adjusted to the mid-day light. Which admittedly wasn't much in this rainy forest. Delicate hands that did not look like they belonged to a warrior skillfully examined the gore-stained corpses, confirming what his refined senses already told him. These two were worthless slum criminals, and would be missed by no one. The being stood up, flowing like the river water, allowing pale lips to slide up over glinting fangs. A gentle breath was taken in simultaneously through the delicate mouth and nose.

The vampiric samurai allowed the luxury of a moment of rest to slide over his mentally weary frame as his mind analyzed the welcome scents of a forest populated only by animals, no duthering humans or worry some vampires to bother him. His mind turned back to the two criminals, and he briefly pondered the strange clothes and odd weapons they carried. He sighed peacefully again, letting the matter slide from his mind. However, the slim frame suddenly erected as an all-too-familiar scent reached his sensitive nose. Vampire, and only two distinguishable scents. Praying that they would be younger than he was, the samurai loosened the blood-red katana in it's sheath with his left hand, which was wrapped tightly around the sheath, and waited like the perfect hunter he was.

T-Tessa! Wait up! The leaves of the forest fluttered gently as a single dark shape darted through the brush in a graceful straight line, hardly leaving a trail in it's wake. The peace was short lived, however, as a second being, obviously the owner of the outburst, followed. From the voice, it was obviously a male, and it's movements confirmed the assumption. Tripping foolishly, he knocked into a large tree and it creaked angrily, teetering as it's roots snapped from beneath it. Oh, nonono.. he muttered to himself as he shot to the other side of the tree just in time to push it easily back into place. The vampire sighed as he looked up at the tree. making sure it could keep it's own balance before letting go, he turned around and called out into the now utterly silent wood, Tessa? Tessa where'd you go?

Right here, Kaine, Tessa hung backwards off a low branch, her legs folded over the top to keep her from falling. Despite being a telepath, she herself could not avoid the grip of gravity. Kaine yelped and jumped away from the noise, slamming into the side of another tree which in turn fell onto it's side. His death grip on the trunk released when he turned his gaze back to the creature the sound had come from, shit, Tess, scare the crap out of me why don'tcha? Tessa rolled her eyes and sat up on the branch, we've been practicing on your hearing, you should have heard I was there, she replied nonchalantly.

Kaine scoffed and stepped down from the scarred tree trunk and grumbled quietly to himself, we haven't practiced that much.. Yes, we have. Kaine looked up into the branch to glare at Tessa, but she was already gone. The male rolled his eyes and turned around, dashing off after her. It was easy to see the path she has taken, or rather, smell. The finely tuned sense of smell all vampires have made that all too easy, and he moved through the maze or trees with near ease. Sadly, Kaine wasn't exactly the most graceful runner, and he tore up pieces of sod where his converse touched the ground. Suddenly the scent of his friend became stronger and he stopped, and none too soon, coming to a rest directly behind her.

Tessa stood utterly still, and Kaine quickly followed suit, as she stared at a figure almost fifty yards away, seeing even his smallest details easily. What puzzled her the most, however, were his eyes. The taint of human blood in the air was strong, enough to make Kaine wrinkle his nose in an attempt not to care about it. Yet his eyes were golden. Vegetarian vampires did not kill humans. Her unblinking gaze remained up on the newcomer and noise ceased in the area around them. Three of the most dangerous predators on earth were on edge, along with the rest of the forest. Why are you killing humans? Tessa's voice rang out, splitting the silence in one swift blow. She wanted to know what this vampire was doing with human blood on his sword.

Musei spun around, his body ready to launch forward as muscle memory ruled over thought momentarily. Luckily, he had shifted forward only a half inch, and his sword was clean, and in it's sheath. The color of which was a raven black that almost seemed to absorb the light around it. In one fluent motion that seemed oddly like water tumbling off a cliff, a pale hand shot up to pull down the slanted four eyed-mask over his eyes, leaving only the blood red lips visible to the outside world. His voice was monotonous, seemingly unaffected by the careful vampires across the space from him. These humans are scum. They are not worth the air that they breathe... And many innocent lives will be saved by eradicating these... scum.

He spat out the last word, emotion spiking only to drop back down to the flatness that the vampire seemed to emulate. The strange vampire stood up, bowing low from the waist to the two. He obviously thought that his brief explanation mollified the anxiety of the older female, and the younger male. The mask prevented him from seeing, so he relied on his sense of smell, hearing, and touch. The katana slid tightly into it's sheath with a snap, and Musei turned his back to the two other vampires after straightening up from the low bow, and walked back over to the two corpses, and ran his fingers across the corpses, checking things known only the odd, disconnected vampire. As he was working, the flat voice floated out from the red lips once again, Have you never rid this area of scum, taking a few lives to save many more...?

Without waiting for an answer, Musei continued his strange work, pulling out a strange liquid and spreading it over the forbidden nectar of the humans, the substance neutralizing the foul smell of the blood. He shook the bottle, and sighed, disappointment slightly obvious in his slight frame. I am almost out of this...shame.... it took quite some time in the Byzantium Empire to obtain this... He shrugged to himself, straightening up and brushing some dirt and dust off his odd clothes. The four red eyes glinted in the fading light of the day, and after a few more moments he stood up and turned to the two younger vampires. Musei
'looked' at the two as if it was the first time he had noted their presence. The blood-red lips took on an inquisitive upwards tilt as he waited for their reactions.

Kaine stepped to Tessa's side as the strange new vampire turned his back to them. Tessa's lip curled angrily. It had been such a long time since a vampire thought itself this strong as to turn it's back on her. Kaine, being much younger, didn't have a problem with it. His eyes wandered over the blood soaked bodies of the 'scum' and twitched slightly and diverted his gaze. Tessa's blue gaze remained affixed on this enigma of a vampire as he turned his face back towards them.

His mask was strange, and she comtemplated how well he could see out of it, her mind automatically taking the path of strategy, given she needed to fight him. She hoped not though, seeing as he had a sword and planned to use it, she had never fought a vampire like this before. Regaurdless of how 'scummy' you think they are, humans are a strange breed, and even their worst can be missed, she took a step forward and Kaine's gaze snapped back to her. They had encountered rogue vampires before, but nothing like this.

Nonetheless, you're on our turf. If people get edgy about the woods because two guys were knifed to death, the Volturi will be after our hides.. Her voice was bordering on a bitter sarcasticness and Kaine eyed her wearily. He turned his gaze back to the newcomer and decided he might take a safer route, well, uh, I'm Kaine, this is Tessa, who're you? Tessa flicked her eyes towards him for a moment before deciding it was acceptable and looking back towards the vampire.

If you intend to fight me, let us move somewhere where it will not be noticed. I also assure you that these two will not be missed. His silken voice carried hints of a foreign accent, lilting but not identifiable to any specific region of the world. There was also the distinct taint of sarcasm, even more mocking than Tessa's. He obviously at least thought himself to be more powerful than her. When he spoke, his voice was no longer tainted by the sarcasm. The only humans they smell of are each other. There is no smell of any others on their clothes, or anything else. Also, the ragged growth on their face suggest a great deal of time spent in the forest. This, of course, is not to mention that their bodies will not be found. The vampire with the strange clothing and armor straightened up, casting his 'gaze' around, and spreading more of the pale liquid that removed the smell of blood.

Once this task was finished, the vampire straightened up. He held a single finger up, his pointer, signifying "please wait a second". The vampire then became little more than a blur as he dashed over to the bodies, picking them up and disappearing into the woods, no sounds marking his progress. The only thing that even suggest the vampire was there were faint, non-smelling splotches of dark red, and the vampire's scent. After about 5 minutes, the vampire reappeared in the clearing, followed by a very strong breeze for a few moments. Forgive me. I was disposing of the bodies. I am Shikyo Musei.

The shadows around them began shifting, taking on an almost menacing edge, although they had not moved more than a few millimeters. And for your information, my blade is not a KNIFE. It is a katana, the most refined blade in this world. Pearly white teeth could be seen as they escaped from underneath his red lips, biting down hard on the bottom lip to control the flaring temper. Calm thine self musei... It will not serve to lose your temper again... now it will be noticed, and your unending existence might just be the opposite of such... He was obviously working through several relaxation techniques, and after a few more moments he straightened up, bowing low at the waist once more, looking to the two others expectantly.

Kaine grinned and looked at Tessa, see, it's obviously not a knife, it's a katana, he mocked. Tessa narrowed her gaze at him and 'hmph'd. Kaine chuckled and glanced back at the newcomer, sorry, she gets a little hot headed sometimes. He was all smiles and snickers now, and it was obvious by the way he shifted his weight from one foot to the other that he was holding back the temptation to run over to the strange vampire and shake his hand. Mostly because he was afraid he might lose said appendage. Tessa on the other hand did not seem quite so enthused, whether it's a knife or a katana, it's all greek to me. Or in your case, she crossed her arms over her chest and flicked the hair out of her face, Japanese.

Kaine only seemed more amased, this strange vampire was quickly becoming more and more intruiging, Japanese? You're Japanese? I soooo want to go there but we haven't had any time.. Kaine wilted, his disappointment obvious. Tessa rolled her eyes and took another few steps forward, the movement completely fluid, so you're just a kindly soul looking to rid the world of evil, is that it? Her attitude was stark in contrast to Kaine's. The male turned to the vampire, Musei, with a questioning expression. Obviously, this is where the conversation could go from peaceful to confrontational in a manner of seconds.

Musei turned slightly, angling his body to be less of a target, although he was confident enough about his own ability as to not be too worried about the short female's hostility towards him. His voice was lighter now, the male having obviously gained the Ronin's Trust... no... Attention. Most people do tend to get that way, sir. After he responded to the male, Musei gave the female his undivided attention. She seemed to be becoming more and more hostile with every harsh sentence from her mouth. He let the next few unimportant comments about Japan pass by, his attention focused on the female. Suddenly, the mask of his was getting annoying. With a grand flurry, the slight-framed vampire swept the four-eyed mask up and off his head, revealing more of the snow-white hair, and his smoldering gold eyes, set above a slight nose and dark lips in a heavily Japanese face.

Musei responded to her steps, his own grace giving the illusion that he was floating over the land, and the ground beneath him remained completely undisturbed. Since Musei took such long strides, he and the female were now only a couple yards apart. In a complete reversal of the hostility she obviously expected from him, and that which rolled off her, he relaxed his features and gave a beaming smile. This smile changed his face from frightening and unapproachable to almost... normal. His voice was the same, all smiles and other pleasantries, trying to placate the female. I am certainly not a, "kindly soul". I am a ronin wandering the lands that The One has created, one who has no stomach for filth, be it supernatural or human. Attempt to punish me if you will, but I am positive by taking a few lives, I have saved many more.

His lips slid up slightly over the protruding, glistening an unnatural white as the weak light reflected off the enamel. The beaming smile was dropped, voice once again cold and detached, If you so wish, do not hesitate to deal retribution for my heinous crimes of murder. It makes no difference. What has happened will happen, and what will, will. Such is the will of the one. Truth be told, I have grown tired of this meaningless existence... A heavy sigh accompanied the heavy statement, the mask slowly sliding back on. He was obviously preparing for his existence to be ended, as his lips were forming complex words of an unknown origin and language.

Tessa shifted her weight, her eyes leaving Musei to glance around the forest floor. Obviously this guy was just killing some bad guys because it was convenient to him, not because he was hunting down people in their city because he could. She didn't want to kill him, anyways. Sure, Tessa was violent and would more likely end her fights physically than verabally, but she wasn't needlessly hostile. She also wasn't stupid. This vampire had obviously been around the block a time or two, she didn't need to take any chances. Whatever, dude, you obviously weren't doing anything to hurt anyone of importance.. she turned her attention to Kaine, who was grinning like an idiot. It wasn't every day that someon stood up to Tessa and got away with it. Not even Kaine. Her eyes narrowed and Kaine stuck out his tongue.

The male turned his attention back towards Musei, who was left muttering things in a language he had never heard, ah, no need for formalities. Call me Kaine, please. He winked and Tessa scoffed. The female turned her attention back towards the strange vampire, wondering how he would react to Kaine's overly nice and accepting attitude. Kaine, though, wasn't finished. He glanced back at Tessa before turning and jogging over to Musei and holding out his hand, It's nice to meet you, what brings you to Forks all the way from Japan? And do you prefer Shikyo or Musei?

Musei was suddenly standing up, the slight framed vampire moving so quickly that a slight wind was stirred up in the air. Nor were Musei's movements clumsy either. Just like the 'Ancients' his grace was cultivated from many years of existence, the fluidity from an earlier, militaristic lifestyle. He 'glanced' down once at Kaine's hand, then grasped it in his, loosely shaking it and letting go quickly. He was obviously not one for physical contact. Unless you are addressing my entire family, and you cannot since they are all dead, you should use Musei. The vampire's voice was slightly cold, nothing different than earlier, despite the nearly foot of height difference between the towering Kaine and the minute Musei.

He flowed around Kaine, answering his other question as if it was merely an afterthought. I have not been in japan for a great deal of time... The winds have pushed me here. Without any further explanation, Musei 'looked' over at Tessa, his lips taking on an inquisitive upwards tilt. After a few seconds, Musei bowed slightly at the waist towards her, the almost mocking grin not disappearing from the dark lips. You have not yet offered your name, young one, Musei inhaled deeply through both his mouth and nose simultaneously, looking around slightly as he did so, You have a permanent residence nearby, do you not? There are several different scents of you two around here, varying in age.... The vampire continued 'looking' around, even though he could not truly see anything with his unique demon mask on.

Musei took a few steps towards the thicker parts of the forest, then rested his left hand on his right forearm, facing towards where the wind was blowing from. The slim torso expanded greatly several times over, eyes closed even under the mask. He murmured to himself, unaware that he was speaking out loud, Could it be possible...? Is Roze really coming this way too? Could it be possible that he, too, has taken to following the winds of fate...? After another minute or so, Musei turned back to them, obviously embarrassed, his voice reflecting a glimmer of that emotion, Please forgive me... I can become rather... distracted.

Kaine's face fell slightly as the shorter, obviously older, vampire drifted past him. He wasn't used to being around vampires like him, vampires that generally fit the stereotype of being a vampire. Sure, Emily and Tatun were never the most convincing as humans, but Musei was in an utterly different league. The way that danger wafted off of him. The predatory way he moved about. The mask with the four strange, blood colored stones. It was all rather daunting, to say the least. Kaine hardly knew how to react, although he did manage some kind of reply, oh, uh.. well.. Musei it is.. Kaine didn't even bother commenting on the second comment.

On the other hand, Tessa seethed as Musei addressed her. He could talk strangely all he wanted, but talking down to her was where she drew the line. A Volturi mercinary deserved more respect, and regaurdless of her size and attitude, her bite was much worse than her bark. She diverted her gaze and took an unnecessary deep breath, a habit left from her human life, and one that came in handy when pretending to be the creatures they no longer were, I highly doubt you're much older, she grumbled, knowing he'd be able to hear it anyways, but not really caring. Whatever, dude, you're obviously not here to pick a fight, she strode forward again until she was but a meter or so away from the newcomer, I'm Tessa, welcome to Forks. She held out her hand, palm down in a graceful manner, as ladies used to in the Elizebethan Era, before she corrected herself and turned it to the side.

Recovering, Kaine turned to join them, standing at Tessa's side as to not seem overbearing. The new vampire would be cautious still, he was sure, and he knew that most vampires hated to seem closed in. He'd had to learn that the hard way. He snickered at Tessa's hand shake mishap; he'd only seen her do it a hundred times now. Yeah, we do have a house nearby, and there are more of our kind there. We have taken to living with the humans in the town. It's nice to have some kind of community, friends. He smiled warmed, the slightly pointed canines standing out from the rest just enough to be noticeable, maybe you could come visit some time.

Musei smiled a bit wider as Kaine moved awkwardly back around him, the young male obviously not used to militaristic vampires that took full potential of their powers and abilities. Still... It might be nice to finally let the winds of fate blow by me for once... and take up a,his thoughts took on an audible taint, this of course being done on purpose, permanent residence once again, something that has not happened in nearly 500 years.... And, young miss, do not let your temper rule you so... Young one is not exactly an insult... It is merely stating a truth... perhaps you would prefer a formal title? Musei's smile widened slightly, despite his long time alone, his charisma from ages ago was picking up again, the ease of being around other people reinstating itself. These changes were becoming more apparent as his 'stance' straightened up, knees locking and muscles relaxing. Of course, Musei, who always had the tendency for the melodramatic, was making these minute changes more apparent.

With the same grace as before, simply minus most of the threat, Musei took Tessa's hand and gently pressed his lips to the back of her hand, being very careful to not let his sharpened teeth even get close. This, just like the handshake, was dropped after just a few moments, Musei, despite everything, was still slightly uncomfortable with physical contact. His voice dropped the icicles, taking on a smoother, more musical inflection, It is a pleasure to meet you both, and if it is not intruding too much, I believe I shall try this 'permanent settlement' of yours. And if it any reparation to you, miss, you may call me 'short', I will not mind. For once again it is just stating the truth. A relatively warm chuckle left Musei's lips, his entire form much more open, much less predatory, hostility no longer rolling off of him.

Since the male, Kaine, was next to her, Musei 'looked' up at him, grin dropping slightly, voice still musical, You need not worry about making me feel uncomfortable. Such base instincts are beyond negligible at this point in my existence... But I thank you for taking such things into consideration. His smile took a slight, self-criticizing downwards tilt at his inability to drop the formalities off his speech. Now was the time to learn how to speak like them. Or at least to a degree. He didn't really know, not that it mattered. He had a feeling that if he was accepted, then they would do everything necessary to help him adjust and hide his secrets.

The female's eyes narrowed at the vampire. Sure it may have been subtle, but Tessa wasn't born yesterday. She knew when someone was making fun of her, and she didn't like it, no matter how trivial it may have been, youth and appearance are completely opposite- she cut off as Musei took her hand and lightly kissed the back of it. Well, it had been a long time she anyone had done that. After he let go she quickly took her hand back, and if vampires could blush, she would have been. Poor, easily flustered, Tessa. At least she didn't have it as bad as Mikey. Beside her, Kaine was near gaffawing. It was too the point that he had to look away in fear that he was making an idiot of himself. Which he was. Well, to Tessa, anyways. She growled lightly and pushed him with one arm, the force sending him toppling face forward into the ground.

Kaine lifted his head from the ground, still chuckling lightly. His pride wasn't bruised enough for one last quip though, dirt, my favorite meal. Thanks for that, Te- and his face was in the dirt again. Tessa's shoe on the back of his head looked like it was placed almost daintily, but by the way Kaine couldn't get his head off the ground, looks obviously were deceiving. Tessa turned back towards Musei, excuse him, he's an idiot. I haven't managed to fixed his attitude quite yet. Kaine struggled slightly, his shoulder still racking with silent laughter, when he spoke though, strangely, his voice seemed not muffled at all, almost like he was standing next to them again, don't make me yell! I'm crazy enough to do it!

Tessa rolled her eyes in response, lifting her foot off the back of his head and taking a few steps back, whatever, loser. Only because I don't want to make a mess of these shoes. They're new. Kaine rolled onto his back, wiping his hands over his face to rid himself of the few peices of dirt and grass from the forest floor. Oh well, things had been worse. As I would have said before I was so rudely interrupted, you are welcome for the consideration. Or something like that. The english language still catches me now and again, he tucked his arms behind his head, not bothing to move from his spot on the ground, so, shortstuff, wanna come see our kick ass pad, now?
